Wastepaper Baskets in the Craftsman Spirit

Wastepaper baskets of this sort were available in the early twentieth century, but they are rarely seen today. I build them in oak-veneered plywood stained to medium brown and varnished. The panels and bottoms are joined by leather laces. Both baskets stand fourteen inches high. The smaller basket, a hexagon, is approximately twelve inches across at the top. The larger basket is octagonal and about fourteen inches across. $200 and $250 respectively. Call for availability.

5121: A Magazine Rack in the Stickley Tradition

I've long admired Gustav Stickley's Number 512 book cabinet. Here, I've downsized the design and made it into a magazine rack, preserving the general form, the elegant profile and such characteristic construction details as wedged tenon joinery.

The piece stands 36 inches high and has a footprint of 8 by 14 inches. It's shown here in quartersawn white oak finished in medium brown dye and hand-rubbed satin varnish. Made to order. Please contact me for details.
